Sports Teams in Spruce Grove, AB

2 lacrosse players

While most people in Canada follow or know about the major sports clubs located in Edmonton and Calgary, there are many other amateur and minor league teams that exist, and they go beyond hockey. Here are just a few of the sports teams that you can find in Spruce Grove, AB.

1. St. Albert Rams Lacrosse Club

Box lacrosse is an extremely fast-paced game where players have to run and pass at amazing speeds and through a number of players. The sport has the aggression of hockey but the speed of basketball. It’s an entertaining sport to sit back and watch. For those brave enough, it’s a great game to play.

In Spruce Grove, AB, they have the St. Albert Rams. The group is a member of the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council. They play from mid-April to the final days of June. It’s a great team to join; the sport has been noted to have fewer major injuries than soccer, baseball, or hockey and teaches young players about agility and teamwork.

Depending on their division level, they’ll practice between 2 to 4 times a week, including league games. You can watch most games during any day of the week from Monday through Friday between 6 and 10 PM

2. St. Peter the Apostle Spartans Spruce Grove, AB

Those at the high school level can find sports as well. In Spruce Grove, AB, there is a basketball club that is showing success. Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams are of noteworthy attention. The girls’ team recently won its Rock of Ages tournament, showing their competition what they’re made of. It’s the first time that they’ve won the tournament in the program’s history.

The win is a bright point for the group. The grade 9 boys’ team has even more to be proud of as they’ve just become county champs and haven’t lost a game in 2 years. The Spartan boys and girls show that there is a great pool for basketball in the Spruce Grove area.

3. Raven’s Volleyball Club Spruce Grove

Another great outlet for teenage girls and boys is volleyball. In Spruce Grove, the prominent volleyball club is the Ravens. They have multiple teams for girls to join and offer a 16U team for boys.

They state that their goal is to create a balance for young people between athleticism and education. Raven’s Volleyball Club feels that volleyball as a sport can teach them these things and allow them to transfer what is taught into other aspects of their life.

The club pushes their athletes with the use of the LTAD program, which promotes fitness for life. They train and practice on a competitive level. Their goal is to increase the interest surrounding volleyball in the community so that young people are encouraged to play outside of school programs.

4. Villa Maria Country Inn

The Villa Maria Country Inn is not located in Spruce Grove, AB, but the bigger city of Edmonton. If you’re planning on spending more time in Alberta’s capital, then this is an option for you. It’s located in a residential area and is within 10 minutes of most of the major points of interests in the city.

It’s a modest bed and breakfast with free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, cable TV, and en-suite bathrooms. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast every morning. It’s a great option for those who are looking for a more homier option and are on a budget.

While Spruce Grove only has small sports clubs, BlissfulBalanceRmt thinks they are still notable. They bring the community together to cheer for a common goal. For those who are only interested in major league sports, the Edmonton Oilers play not too far from Spruce Grove. You can also catch an Edmonton Eskimos game just a few miles away.
